Man Beats & Rape Church Member After Her Birthday Party

A 31-year-old man identified only as Damilola has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman on Omole Estate, in the Ojodu area of the state.

Punch Metro learnt that the victim, Favour (not real name) and Damilola were members of a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and the woman had invited the suspect to her birthday party on Tuesday, July 19.

Favour, a National Diploma holder and fashion designer, was allegedly told by the suspect five days after the birthday party that he had a surprise gift for her. The two were said to have gone to Damilola’s apartment on Otubor Street on Omole Estate, the suspect raped the victim in his room.

Punch Metro learnt that Favour reported the matter at the Ojodu Police Division and Damilola was arrested. The incident was also reported at the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Alausa.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Punch correspondent that Damilola had failed to show up at the victim’s birthday party and allegedly lured her to his house a week later.

She said, “Damilola and the lady were church friends. The lady had her birthday on Tuesday, July 19, and she invited all youths in the church who were her friends. Damilola, however, did not come. He, thereafter, called her to apologise and promised to make it up.

“On the following Sunday, Damilola called her that he had set up a makeup party and that the two were going to a restaurant. However, he took her to his house in the estate, and locked her up. He beat her up and raped her.

“When the lady regained her freedom, she reported the matter at the police station. On Monday, she, accompanied by other church youth executive, went to the DSVRT office in Alausa to make another report.”

The DSVRT Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the victim had been taken for medical tests.

She said, “The suspect allegedly gave the victim multiple slaps and instructed her to pull off her dress. She was crying and begging. The victim later gave in and Damilola raped her.

“The DPP has requested the duplicate case file. The victim has been referred to the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, for necessary tests. The suspect has yet to get a full-time job. He is into entertainment business.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest, adding that the matter had been transferred to the police gender unit.

Chocolate City Music Nigeria has signed a new artiste from Kenya, going by the name ‘Qritical’.

After losing both parents within a space of two months upon entering his teenage years, Eric Onyango Omollo better known as Qritiqal, turned to music as a cathartic expression of deep seated feelings no one should endure at such a young age.
Born in 1989 and raised in Mombasa Kenya, he ventured into music through school festivals. He hung out with local artistes who mentored him through his personal struggles, including the loss of one of his siblings, as he passionately pursued music as both therapeutic and a career path. After a chance meeting with Gyptian at a local show, he was inspired to record original material and debuted in 2010 as a sensational dancehall artiste with the single ‘Weak Inside’ – a nationwide hit.

The single won him the Best Video of the Year 2010 at the Nzumari Awards and the Best Video of The Year Coast Music Awards. In 2012, he dropped another hit single ‘Kupe’ where he was featured by Ogopa Deejayz Artist and Guru Col. Mustafa.

Having also shared a stage with the likes of Jaguar and Sauti Sol, he decided it was time for him to pause and develop his own unique sound, later on meeting and collaborating with local producer, Motif_On_The_Beat (Morris Kobia). Their collaboration produced successful DJ Dubplates for local DJs, at a time when he also doubled as a jingle maker for some advertisement agencies.

Good News! Federal Government To Begin Feeding 5.5 Million School Children

The Federal Government has said will commence its National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in September with 5.5 million school pupils across the country.

Mrs. Abimbola Adesanmi, the National Programme Manager for the scheme, who stated this at a stakeholders’ workshop on the Ogun State Home Grown School Feeding Programme, held in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, July 27, said the project would accommodate pupils in primary one to three at the take off stage.

She said while states, depending on readiness, would define their respective model based on cost effectiveness and sustainability, the federal government will provide oversight and technical support.

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose had insisted that the School Feeding Programme of the federal government must be done without the proposed 40 per cent counterpart funding from the states, saying; “The Federal Government is already looking for excuse for the impending failure of the programme by asking States to contribute 40 per cent to the scheme.”

The governor, who said the school feeding programme was purely a contract between the APC-led Federal Government and Nigerians, asked; “Were the States consulted before the APC made the promise during the presidential campaign? How can you make a promise and win election on the basis of that promise and now expect States to help you to fulfill the promise? That to me is fraud!”

Nigeria Is Losing $500 Million To Cybercrime Annually – Communications Minister

The 26th National Conference and Exhibition of the Nigerian Computer Society has come and gone. At the event, Communication Minister Adebayo Shittu stated that Nigeria loses half a billion dollars to cybercrime annually.

“National safety and security include the nation’s cyberspace. Our growing dependence on digital infrastructure introduces and poses grave threats to national security. It is quite shocking that Nigeria loses about N127 billion which is 0.08 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP), yearly to cybercrime,” he said.

Be that as it may, ICT is still contributing a lot to Nigeria’s GDP – experts estimate that that contribution is as much as 10%. According to a report in iAfrikan, ICT and related services are responsible for the creation of over 10  million jobs in the last decade, and over $32 billion in foreign direct investment.

In Africa, Nigeria is the second largest ICT market, with the number of internet subscribers in Nigeria skyrocketing from less than one million in 2003 to over 80 million in November 2015.
The federal government has inaugurated a Cybercrime Advisory Council with the aim of tackling cybercrime in the country, and computer emergency response teams have been put in place via the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and NITDA.

The government is also making use of technology in some of its functions. Some of them include the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

“Though great strides have been made in these areas, there is still a lot to do to secure our dear nation. We all know that ICT is the globally recognized enabler in all spheres of development and it is most appropriate for NCS to step in by offering the nation an authentic platform to explore the role of ICT in national safety and security. Using ICT and Geographical Information Systems to tackle Boko Haram, Niger Delta militancy and other security challenges with enhanced efficiency and professionalism has become a matter of paramount importance,” Shittu said, according to Afrikan.
