SWEET POEM BY MAYA ANGELOU, PHILOMENA WOMAN

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

President Muhammadu Buhari signs 2016 Bills into Law

This assent has now given way for the full implementation of the budget.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

While the President says that the budget must be able to work for the people, the Senate President said that with the signing of the budget, “what is important now is its implementation”.

The Budget Minister, Udo Udoma, said that the budget size was slightly lower than the figure the executive submitted.

What was eventually signed was 6.6 trillion Naira on the revenue assumption of $38 crude oil price.

Clean Copy Of The Budget

The President had in December 2015 submitted a proposal of 6.7 trillion Naira, of which, 351.3 billion Naira was earmarked for  statutory transfers.

One trillion, four hundred and seventy-five billion, three hundred and twenty million Naira was set aside for debt service while two trillion, six hundred and forty-eight billion, six hundred million Naira was earmarked for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure.

Friday’s event comes after the National Assembly submitted a clean copy of the budget to the President. The President had withheld assent after some alterations were noticed in the document.

Strategic Priority Programmes

The government announced on Thursday that it had mapped out 34 strategic priority programmes and projects it intended to achieve with the 2016 budget.

These include a capital spend minimum of 30% annually, an appropriate and predictable exchange regime by the end of 2016, increased low interest lending rate of 9%, self-sufficiency in tomato paste in 2016 and rice production by 2018.

It also plans to increase local production of maize, soya beans, poultry and livestock and to stop import.

Aba boils as soldiers kill two Igbo butchers— 6th May 2016

Aba boils as soldiers kill two Igbo butchers— 6th May 2016

From Okey Sampson, The Suns news

THERE was turmoil in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State yesterday, following protests over the alleged killing of two Igbo butchers at the Waterside abattoir by soldiers.

According to the report, an unnamed soldier went to a bunk close to the abattoir in mufti to smoke Indian hemp after which he refused to pay, claiming he was a soldier.

When the man who sold the Indian hemp to him insisted he must pay, they had quarrel, which was said to have been ‘settled’ before he left.

However, the soldier reportedly came to the abattoir yesterday with four of his colleagues, in a hilux van and started shooting indiscriminately.

There was pandemonium in the area as people scampered for safety. When the shooting stopped, a pig rarer who was identified simply as Ojukwu was found dead.

It was gathered that when some of the butchers who saw what happened  came to ask the soldiers what the matter was, the trigger happy soldiers shot and killed another butcher.

The soldiers, according to witnesses, after killing the butchers, whisked four others away.

This angered the butchers and joined by other people, they embarked on massive protest which shook the city.

The protest later took religious and ethnic colouration, as the protesters matched towards the Mosque on Hospital Road, but were dispersed by soldiers who kept watch over the edifice. Some Hausas in the city had to take refuge in the area command of the Nigerian police to avoid being attacked.

When our reporter visited the abattoir, tears flowed freely from people around as they mourned the death of their colleagues.

The commanding officer of the 14 brigade, Ohafia, Brig. General Lawrence Fejokwu, said the report he got was that soldiers went to the abattoir over a leadership tussle in the association which led to the fracas.

OPINION: Why Omawumi Shouldn't Have Walked Out Of That Interview

Omawumi walked out of an interview after the interviewer asked her questions she found inappropriate.

Apparently, Omawumi’s grouse is that the interviewer, Zinnia, shouldn’t be focusing on “rumour” questions. According to Omawumi, Zinnia asking her such questions is malicious and geared towards making her look bad to the viewing public who are her potential customers (to buy her album). Thus, Zinnia doesn’t mean her well.

One thing Omawumi failed to understand is that interviews are primarily a medium for the
interviewee - especially when he/she is a public figure - to right any wrongful information (rumours inclusive) about themselves out there. So, a good interviewer would ask these questions. The reason interviews are set up is for the audience/public to get first-hand information, i.e. hear from the horse’s mouth. Therefore, the interviewer has the obligation both to you (the interviewee) and the audience as he/she is the medium, the arbiter, of credible information. Renowned journalists aren’t afraid to ask those hard hitting questions no matter whose ox is gored. Check out world renowned journalists who have created a niche for themselves as top interviewers whether it is in political interview – Christiane Amanpour, Wolf Blitzer, and David Letterman – or celebrity and lifestyle – Oprah, Wendy Williams, Ellen Degeneres, and Jimmy Fallon. They do not ask what the interviewee, no matter how high and mighty he/she is; comfortable questions, but ask what needs to be known about that person.

You as a celebrity agreed to the interview. Therefore, it is a given that you want to set the record straight and give first hand information you want out there. The interview is a rare opportunity for you to control the narrative about your person and your brand; to make you less vague to your fans and the public. So, you wanting the interviewer to soft pedal and ask only questions you are comfortable with, defeats the aim of the interview. It becomes superficial, a mockery and the interviewer; an a** kisser.

This is not to say that all interviewers are professional journalists. In fact, most of the entertainment OAPs here in Nigeria are not trained journalists. But, I digress. A professional should know how to tactically position and word questions. For failing to do these, I would begrudge Zinnia. Then again, I don’t know if there was an agreement before the interview. Seeing as it’s been reported that Zinnia is someone Omawumi had known for a long time (perhaps why she agreed to the interview), therefore she shouldn’t be asking her questions based on “rumours”. Excuse me Ma, the interview wasn’t for the benefit of Zinnia. It isn’t your normal parlour gist. This is a TV interview for the public and these are rumours you should be eager to clear. “Have you ever seen me smoking” isn’t an answer. Of course Zinna might never have seen you smoke but the question wasn’t for her doubts. It’s for the public who might or might not have believed the rumours. Therefore, a more suitable answer would be to debunk it completely, and not to get all defensive; indirectly making the interviewer feel bad and then storm out. This would only reinforce the rumours. I’d expected Omawumi to reply diplomatically while pointing out her objection to such questions; even buttressing it with the premise that why are female celebrities being placed on a different pedestal than male celebs? Are people bashing male celebs that smoke weed and even brag about it? Is anyone calling out Wizkid or Tuface for having babies upandan? There are a lot of other ways Omawumi could have handled this. Ways that would have scored her more points and emphasise the need for gender equality instead of putting on righteous indignation. She didn’t need to ridicule the interviewer so vehemently; saying “you don’t mean me well” over and over again. Zinnia was only asking to properly inform the public though her word coinage was distasteful and judgemental.

Maybe there was a pre-agreement and Omawumi had requested to be asked only questions pertaining to her forthcoming album. If this was the case and Zina deflected, then Zina is wrong. This is purely a breach of trust. She could have handled it with tact by asking less of the “Did you date Dr. Frabz?”, “Who’s the real father of your child”, “how do you balance your drinking and smoking habits with motherhood” questions. But more “What’s the message to the album”, “How has it been so far taking out time from music to focus on marriage and child”, “What’s the nature of the album” etc. Even if it there wasn’t a pre-agreement and Om

Janet’s tour began in August 2015 but she took to Twitter early in April to confirm that the second leg had been delayed.

‘We are in the second leg of the tour and there’s been a sudden change and I thought it was important you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning a family so I’m going to have to delay the tour.

‘Please, if you can, try and understand it’s important that I do this now, I have to rest up, doctors orders, but i have not forgotten about you, I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly I can’

EFCC freezes account of a billionaire, Ibeto Cletus

Billionaire businessman and head of The Ibeto Group, Cletus Ibeto has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over his alleged role in arms procurement deals, SIGNAL can report.

Sources familiar with the development told SIGNAL Wednesday night that bank accounts belonging to the business mogul who presides over one of Africa’s largest business enterprises have also been frozen by the EFCC.

Efforts by our reporter to reach Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson of the EFCC proved abortive at the time of filing this report.

It will be recalled that Nigeria’s Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo alleged on Monday that around $15 billion — equal to about half the country’s foreign currency reserves — was stolen from Nigeria’s public purse under the previous government of Goodluck Jonathan through fraudulent arms procurement deals.

Similarly, in January, 2016 the information minister Lai Mohammed said 55 people who were government ministers, state governors, public officials, bankers and businessmen stole 1.34 trillion naira ($6.8 billion) over a seven-year period.

The Nigerian government is yet to release any evidences backing these claims.

Rashidi Yekini Memorial – FIFA Remembers Him

Rashidi Yekini Memorial – FIFA Remembers Him by robosky02(m): 2:40pm On May 04
On Friday 4 May 2012, at the age of 48, Rasheed Yekini passed away after a brief but serious illness. Nigeria’s record goalscorer (37 goals) ensured his name went down in the history books when he scored the Super Eagles’ first ever FIFA World Cup™ goal at the 1994 finals in the USA in the 3-0 group stage win over Bulgaria.

FIFA.com looks back on his memorable goal and subsequent celebration. Yekini who played for several clubs in Spain, Greece, Portugal and Switzerland, could hardly believe he had scored and spontaneously grabbed the net, shaking it in celebration.

The photo of the 58-time Nigeria international captivated the world and even today the former striker, who in 1993 was the first Nigerian to be voted African Footballer of the Year, remains a respected figure in the global football family.

“Rasheed Yekini was one of the best players at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the USA,” said former FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter when he learned of Yekini’s death. “Against Bulgaria he scored Nigeria’s first ever FIFA World Cup goal, a strike that will earn him a place in the annals of Nigerian football. He will be sorely missed.”

#‎LindaIkeji‬ TO LINDA IKEJI ET AL., this is not a rant, rather an education: I never lived as a 'Gay man' in Nigeria! How could I have struggled as a gay man when I was never a man, as unfathomable as it may be for you and your readers, it is the fact. I know my validation as the person I say I am doesnt come from you or anyone else, rather it comes from me, I wear the shoes, I know where it hurts and I alone can tell you how it feels.......But when you lot publish the wrong messages in other to get attention for your blogs, it encourages hate and transphobia from Nigerians and beyond. As a 'Journalist/blogger' you should have the duty of care for all your subjects when writing about them, especially when it is about sensitive marginalised subjects such as the LGBTQI+ community. You all have immense power to influence your readers positively or negatively, so I suggest you use that power to educate yourselves and your readers, instead of inciting hate. Yes it is sensitive to talk or write about the LGBTQI+ community because we are at risk all around the world due to misconceptions, bigotry and lack of education..................MY BRAIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN FEMALE. JUST BECAUSE I HAD MEDICAL CORRECTION TO ALIGN MY BRAIN WITH MY BODY DOESNT MAKE MY CHILDHOOD AS A FEMALE INVALID...... MY SEXUALITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY IDENTITY AS A WOMAN EITHER, I AM A STRAIGHT WOMAN AS I HAVE ALREADY STATED IN THE VIDEO BELOW. WHO I GO TO BED WITH DOESNT DEFINE WHO I WAKE UP AS........NO I DID NOT 'TRANSITION'. JUST BECAUSE I WAS ASSIGNED A CERTAIN GENDER ON PAPER WHEN I WAS A BABY DOESN'T MAKE ME LESS OF A FEMALE AS A CHILD..... SOME TRANSPEOPLE AND MYSELF HAVE AND STILL USE THE WORD 'TRANSITION', I DONT ANYMORE, BECAUSE CORRECTING MY LIFE MEDICALLY IS NOT A SWITCH FROM ONE THING TO THE OTHER, IT IS RATHER AN ENHANCEMENT OF WHO I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN............Please save your insults and religious quotes for those who care, it will not affect my already solid confidence.
PEACE!
